Perspective Drawing for Artists Workshop

  • James Freed Design Sebastopol, CA, 95472 United States (map)

Perspective Drawing for Artists- This two-day workshop will delve into the theory and practice of linear perspective drawing as it pertains to the working artist. Eye level, vanishing points, position of view, picture plane, cone of vision, light and shadows, will all be discussed, demonstrated and practiced. Students will practice by creating step by step diagrams of perspective principles, and how to apply these to direct observation sketching on location.

1 Point System, 2 Point Systems and 3 Point systems will be demonstrated. Would you like buildings or rooms in your drawings and paintings, and the people in them, to look more realistic? Do roof line angles drive you crazy? Want to learn how to draw stairs convincingly? Want to learn to draw ellipses correctly? This is the workshop for you!

What to bring:

  1. Drawing pencils and pens, markers, soft erasers, whatever drawing tools you enjoy working with.

2. A long straight edge, an 18” or 24” steel ruler works well for this.

3. A large drawing pad of paper, preferably 18” x 24”, with a clip style drawing board.

4. A bag lunch for both days. Soft drinks and water provided.

We’ll be working primarily in the studio, with some drawing outdoors weather permitting. 10 AM to 4 PM both days.
